Protect Your SNAP! New federal work rules and eligibility requirements take effect March 1, 2026

Thank you to Westchester County Department of Social Services for the information below.

Federal work requirements, age limits and exemptions are changing for SNAP recipients and applicants who are 18-64 years old, living without dependent minors younger than 14 and who are able to work.

See HERE AND below for information about the changes and about what you will need to do to ensure you are or remain eligible.

Empire State Child Credit

Many New York families can receive up to $1,000 per child through New York's recently increased Empire State Child Credit (ESCC) by filing a New York State income tax return. If you do not owe taxes because you don't have income or your income is extremely low, you can get this money as cash back. If you owe taxes, this credit can pay for that and even provide you with additional cash. Find out more by visiting on.ny.gov/childcredit.
