Nonprofit CEO/ED Roundtable Breakfast - January 10th

More than 50 leaders in Westchester's nonprofit sector came together to Speed Date - to learn about each other and discuss recent accomplishments or innovations in the areas of staffing, fundraising, succession/sustainability planning, and collaboration. Many meetings have already been planned between participants to discuss opportunities to partner and best serve the residents of Westchester County.

NY State Budget Forum Breakfast with Members of the NY State Westchester Senate and Assembly Delegations - January 12th

Westchester's nonprofit sector came out in full force at a standing-room-only budget forum with the NY State Senate and Assembly Westchester Delegation to discuss issues such as affordable housing and homelessness, domestic violence funding, nonprofit contracting, food insecurity, immigration policy, and more. 

Thank you to attending state legislators for listening to the opportunities and concerns presented by Westchester's diverse nonprofit organizations. We look forward to our continued partnership to unify the sector and advance equity for the people we serve and the nonprofit workforce!

And thank you to Richard Nightingale, NPW President and CEO of Westhab for opening the forum and Ron Abad, NPW Board Member, and CEO of Community Housing Innovations, Inc., for moderating the forum and sharing NPW’s 2023 Advocacy and Policy Agenda.

NPW is proud to share its racial equity statement HERE and the following updated resources to support equity, diversity and inclusion in the nonprofit sector and Westchester County.

NPW Racial Equity Report: Charting an Anti-Racist Path Forward in Westchester’s Nonprofit Sector.

The report provides framework for examining the four key problems, essential questions and recommended solutions to help Westchester’s nonprofits evolve into anti-racist organizations. The 2022 report has been updated with additional resources to support DEI.

Save the Date - March 29: Disability Employment Forum 

On March 29, 2023 at 9:00 AM, NPW will host a forum with Cornell University's Yang-Tan Institute on Employment and Disability. and the Northeast ADA Center designed to support the employment of people with disabilities in Westchester County. New insights and information will be shared along with a toolkit for small businesses to support the employment of people with disabilities. Location to be determined.

 

ADVOCACY DAY IN ALBANY

Nonprofit Westchester is a proud member of the Human Services Council, a coalition of nonprofits that advocates for New York’s human services sector. On March 8 (all day), HSC will hold an Advocacy Day in Albany to advocate for policies that impact the wages of human services workers - and we invite you to attend! 

On Advocacy Day, you will join human services workers across New York for a day of speaking with lawmakers about a specific set of policies that impact the wages of the nonprofit workforce. The day will also include a press conference, lunch and tour of the Capitol. Advocacy Day is FREE to attend - HSC will provide lunch and bus transportation.

NPW Committees are a great way to advance work that benefits the entire nonprofit sector in Westchester, and meet, connect and network with other NPW Nonprofit and Business Members.

Policy

Help us collaborate together to address issues that impact the nonprofit sector, the people we serve and the nonprofit workforce, and develop and educate the community, government and elected officials about NPW’s policy and advocacy agenda. 2023 will be a critical opportunity to advance issues related to equitable contracting for the nonprofit sector. Disabilities Roundtable

The Disabilities Roundtable develops strategies to advance and/or strengthen shared advocacy issues, and collaborates to support programming and initiatives that support access and opportunity for people with disabilities, across the spectrum of physical, intellectual, developmental and cognitive disabilities.

Cause Effective Fellows Program

Apply today for the 2023 Cause Effective Fellows Program, designed for professionals of color in fundraising. Deadline: January 20th. 

 

The Westchester County Youth Bureau is conducting a countywide Community Needs Assessment, which will assess the status of youth needs and services.  There are three surveys (the Youth and Parent surveys are in both English and Spanish):

Please participate in this data collection process by taking the survey and/or sharing by January 26th. The surveys take a few minutes and the responses are all CONFIDENTIAL. If you need hard copies of the surveys, please contact Susan Weisman

NYS Nonprofit Unit - Website and Information

The New York State Nonprofit Unit works to strengthen the relationship between all aspects of State Government and the Nonprofit Sector. The Unit works with State Agencies and New York nonprofits to interpret and clarify state regulations, and connect nonprofits to State decision-makers. Visit their website to find helpful nonprofit resources.

Healthcare Talent Pipeline Program - Spring 2023 Classes

The new Healthcare Talent Pipeline Program (HTPP) funded by Westchester County will train individuals to become a Clinical Medical Assistant or Medical Administrative Assistant. Successful candidates will earn a NYS approved training credential, receive job readiness training and be connected to leading healthcare partners in Westchester County.
