CELEBRATING COLLEGE SIGNING DAY
FIRST-GENERATION, LOW-INCOME STUDENTS DECIDING BETWEEN 262 ACCEPTANCES

WHO: Latino U College Access (LUCA)

WHAT: Latino U College Access will be hosting an in-person College Signing Day celebration in honor of the Class of 2022 Latino U Scholars as they become the first in their families to go to college. During the event, Scholars will announce where they will be making their college dreams a reality. College Signing Day was launched by Former First Lady Michelle Obama as part of her “Reach Higher” initiative, an effort to inspire every student in the U.S. to take charge of his or her future by completing education past high school. This annual event celebrates high school seniors - especially those from underrepresented, low-income, first-generation families - who have committed to pursuing higher education. 

This year, it is especially important to celebrate LUCA’s Scholars because there has been a 5.1% decline in enrollment rates since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic; this equates to 938,000 students who were accepted into college but did not enroll (National Student Clearinghouse Research Center). 

As the tradition continues, we are thrilled to take part in a network of over 3,000 events nationwide. Celebrating our Scholars’ success is much more than a party; it means they know we are proud of their hard work, that we’re invested in their futures, and excited to see what they accomplish next.
