Bipartisan Deal to Reopen Government Ends Shutdown 

After a 43-day federal government shutdown, Congress enacted a bipartisan agreement to reopen and fund the federal government last Thursday, ending the longest federal shutdown in U.S. history. Federal agencies resumed non-essential operations and restarted efforts to spend and obligate funding approved by Congress. These actions allow nonprofits to regain access to federal grants and contracts to provide critical services in their communities. (National Council of Nonprofits)

Judge Grants a Second Temporary Retraining Order in the National Council of Nonprofits's Case. Orders the Trump Adminsitration to Make Full Snap Payments to the States by Tomorrow (Nov.6)

A federal court today granted an order blocking the Trump administration’s decision to provide only partial funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during the ongoing government shutdown. In the order, the judge directs the Administration to release additional funds to provide full SNAP benefits to ensure millions of Americans will not go hungry while the case proceeds.

Nonprofits Welcome Partial SNAP Funding, Urge Full and Immediate Action to Protect Families (Nov. 3)

The National Council of Nonprofits (NCN) welcomes the Administration’s decision to comply with a Court order to utilize available contingency funds for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). While this action offers critical short-term relief for millions of Americans, NCN and its partners are calling for immediate steps to ensure full and sustained funding for food assistance during the ongoing government shutdown.

A Federal Judge has Issued a Temporary Restraining Order Halting the Federal Government’s Plan to Stop Paying SNAP Benefits (October 31)

The ruling comes in response to a lawsuit filed yesterday by the National Council of Nonprofits (NCN) and a nationwide coalition of local governments, nonprofits, small businesses, and others. While this is not a permanent resolution, it ensures that SNAP benefits will continue as usual across the country while the case moves forward. Even though Friday’s Court ruling ordered contingency funding, it is unclear how much those payments will be and how long they will be delayed.

County Executive Ken Jenkins Allocates Emergency $50,000 in Funding to Feeding Westchester as SNAP Funding Ends (October 30)

With federal SNAP benefits set to end on November 1 and no relief in sight, Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins announced an emergency allocation of $50,000 from the Department of Social Services (DSS) budget to Feeding Westchester.
